联合晚报 becomes the mouthpiece of wayangparty run by NHG's employee

联合晚报:New petition to SNOC to give special award to Liu Guodong

A new round of petition has started on the internet requesting the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) to present a special award to Liu Guodong and a petition drive will be held next Saturday at Hong Lim Park to submit the petition to Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.

Socio-political blog Wayang Party has been collecting signatures online since yesterday to implore SNOC to recognize his contributions to the women team winning the Olympic silver medal.

The petition wrote: “None of the coaches who won the ‘Coach of the year’ award since it was inaugurated in 1970 had ever won a medal in the Olympics games. If STTA refuse to nominate Liu for the award, SNOC should give him a special award.”

The petition will be submitted to Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean who is the President of the Singapore National Olympic Council.

Wayang Party also announced on its blog that it will be organizing a petition next Saturday 6 June 2009 at Hong Lim Park and will invite Liu Guodong to grace the event if he is in Singapore.

Till this afternoon, more than 30 signatures have penned their names down on the petition.

EDITORS’ NOTE:

Please sign the two petitions if you haven’t done so:

Field report:

ER Lee Bee Wah has been missing in action for over a week since she made the remarks about ex-Table Tennis coach Liu Guodong’s speech in the media. Liu flew to Singapore in person to ask for clarifications, but Lee refused to meet him and send two STTA officials to con him to sign a document in English absolving her from all liabilities instead.

Lee Bee Wah also seem oblivious to the widespread public fury against her as well as the existence of our online petition calling her to step down as STTA President which has garnered over 4,800 signatures so far.

We were tipped off by a Khatib resident that Lee Bee Wah will be attending a grassroots event on the morning of 24 May 2009 and as such we sent 2 field reporters there with the hope of meeting her and submitting our letter and petition.

The event was a brisk walk cum free breakfast organized by the Nee Soon Zone ‘F’ RC. We were taken aback by the participants, most of whom are silver-haired. We are the only young people in the group. The session began with a warm-up exercise followed by a brisk walk around the estate along Yishun Street 81. Lee Bee Wah only joined us much later.

During our interaction with the Khatib residents, we tried to dig out more information about Lee’s recent activities. They are unwilling to talk about the table tennis saga. Most feign ignorance or simply wave their hands to brush us away.

According to one grassroots leader we spoke to, Lee Bee Wah is cutting down on her public appearances lately though she still attend the Thursday Meet-the-People session. He praised Lee as a good MP and claimed that most Khatib residents support her.

Lee Bee Wah was dressed in a white polo T-shirt and black colored slacks. She walked around from table to table shaking hands with the residents. She wore a smile on the face all the time and appeared friendly, approachable and cheerful. It does not seem she is bothered by the STTA controversy.

The residents spoke to Lee Bee Wah at length on a variety of municipal issues such as the estate cleanliness, lack of table tennis table, insufficient carpark lots for the disabled, presence of crows and magpies and the noise from the upgrading. Lee was very obliging to their concerns and even took down notes. We listened earnestly, but nobody brought up the table tennis fracas.

The two of us took turns to talk to Lee Bee Wah separately so as not to arouse the suspicion of others. To be fair, Lee does sound genuinely sincere and concerned about our ’problems’ in spite of her much vilified image in public. She is definitely not as aloof and stuck up as some other PAP MPs.

Perhaps Lee should just focus on her job as a MP. She has proven herself to be too inexperienced and inept as STTA President.

We are supposed to tell Lee Bee Wah straight in the face the following:

“ER Lee Bee Wah, this is a present from 4,500 Singaporeans. We are unanimous in our view that you are UNFIT to be STTA President and we would submitting this petition to express our disgust, anger and disappointment with you. We sincerely implore you to step down as STTA President.”

Unfortunately, Andrew was tongue-tied and did not complete the full sentence. Lee Bee Wah really think the envelope is a “gift” to her. She will be SHOCKED when she read the content of the letter and 4,500 comments on the petition!

This is only the beginning of the show. We will step up our public campaign to exert increasing pressure on Lee Bee Wah to resign and on the PAP to take action. Even if she still refuse to do so, they will be severely humiliated to such an extent that they will lose whatever dignity and credibility left of them.

Please help us by telling everybody you know to sign on the petition to remove Lee Bee Wah as STTA President!

Conversation with Lee Bee Wah

Letter submitted to Lee Bee Wah in person on behalf of fellow bloggers, netizens and Singaporeans:

ER Lee Bee Wah
President
Singapore Table Tennis Association

Member of Parliament
Nee Soon South Constituency

Dear ER Lee,

RE: ONLINE PETITION REQUESTING YOU TO STEP DOWN AS STTA PRESIDENT

I am Eugene Yeo, Chief Editor of socio-political blog wayangparty.com.

A week ago, I started an online petition calling for your removal as president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA).

The reasons for me doing so are as follows:

1. This is the second time you have brought STTA into disrepute with your careless and senseless remarks which has demonstrated clearly your ineptitude for the job.

2. You have displayed an utter lack of leadership, emotional intelligence and common sense in the handling of your relationship with Coach Liu Guodong where a little tact and diplomacy on your part would have averted this PR disaster in the first place.

3. As the STTA President, you should step forward to clarify your statements to resolve the issue instead of hiding behind the organization and passing the baton to your subordinates to clear up the mess on your behalf.

4. The public has lost faith and trust in your abilities to bring STTA and the sports forward.

5. Your name has become synonymous with disgust, cowardice and anger following your two major screw-ups. Unless you stepped down, public support for table-tennis is likely to dwindle with you at the helm of STTA.

May I ask you if STTA is funded by taxpayers’ monies or you?

First and foremost, STTA has to account to the public to continue to bring the sports to a higher level to justify the annual funding it receives from the Singapore Sports Council.

While outsiders may have little say in the nomination of Liu Guodong for the ‘Coach of the year’ award, STTA has to be transparent and explain its decision not to nominate him clearly and concisely.

Your explanation that Coach Liu lacked “professionalism, integrity and respect of the players” is completely unacceptable and is a testament of your sheer ignorance of sports management.

If this is indeed so, why did STTA offer to renew contract last year? And why did you even try to persuade him to stay on?

A coach should be judged solely on his results and not by his popularity with the players. Coach Liu has delivered the goods and that is enough for him to win the “Coach of the year” award.

The best coaches in the world are seldom well-liked by the players. Take for example Alex Ferguson which is undoubtably the most successful coach in English football today, but he is definitely not a likeable figure. Just ask David Beckham.

It is impossible for STTA to placate public fury and disappointment without answering the questions below:

1. What are the criteria to determine the coach’s eligibility to be nominated for the ’Coach of the year’ award?

2. Who are the assesors/judges and what is the process involved?

3. What was Liu’s performance in the last 3 years under ex-STTA President Zhu Weiqiang before you took over?

4. If Liu lacks “professionalism and integrity”, why did STTA offer him an improved contract last year?

5. Do all STTA officials share the same sentiment as you about Liu?

Singaporeans have a right to know what is going on and STTA has an obligation to its supporters to reveal as much as possible.

As of 24 May 2009, more than 4,800 Singaporeans have penned their signatures down on the petition requesting for your removal as STTA President

I have attached here a printed copy of the first 4,500 signatures. Please read the comments posted by Singaporeans thoroughly.

You can read the full petition here:

http://www.petitiononline.com/lbh/petition.html

Public opinion is clearly on the side of coach Liu Guodong. Many Singaporeans are perturbed that Liu was not even nominated for the award after winning an Olympic Silver medal for us, an unremarkable feat which is unlikely to be repeated any time sooner.

We were incensed at the treatment you have dished out to him. Even if you really think he does not deserve the award, you should at least show some respect and appreciation for the coach who had made immense contributions to bring the sports to where it is today.

STTA did not make the offensive statements. It was you who made the allegations about Liu’s professionalism and integrity and you alone have to answer for your own words instead of using STTA as a shield to save your skin.

If you are unable to substantiate her claims, you should retract your statements and apologize to Liu in the papers.

STTA should not be dragged into the mudslinging in what is an essentially personal conflict between Lee and Liu.

What will the international community think of the shabby treatment STTA is dishing out to its ex-coach who have contributed tremendously to the sporting fraternity in Singapore?

On behalf of my fellow citizens, I implore you seriously consider resigning as President of STTA for the sake of the association, the sports and the nation.

Please do the right thing and stop clinging on to a position which you have lost all moral authority to be in.

RESIGN FROM STTA NOW!

NHG's employee posting Flyers with Lee Bee Wah’s face printed on toilet bowl pasted at BBQ pit outside Nee Soon South RC!!!

BREAKING: Flyers with Lee Bee Wah’s face printed on toilet bowl pasted at BBQ pit outside Nee Soon South RC!!!

We arrived at the venue 10 minutes earlier and noticed flyers pasted on the seats at the BBQ pits and pillars:

The grassroots leaders came and began removing the flyers frentically. It is not known who the culprit is. He/she is most likely a resident staying in the vicinity who is familiar with where the RC usually conducts its warm-up exercises cum brisk walk. The flyers were probably put there to draw the attention of Lee Bee Wah.

A grassroots leader took a few photos of the flyers. We overheard him later telling another grassroots leader to keep the matter from Lee Bee Wah and not to alert the police.

Despite her not commenting further on the fiasco, the controversy enshrouding her just simply refuse to go away. Lee Bee Wah’s continued silence is fueling more public anger and disgust at her reticence and now dragging STTA into the mudslinging in order to save her skin.

Email this letter to Lee Bee Wah’s superiors to dismiss her as STTA President

EDITORS’ NOTE:

Please feel free to cut, paste and edit the letter below and email Lee Bee Wah’s superiors. Forward it to everybody you know as well:

Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of National Olympic Committee

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Community, Youth and Sports

Dear Sir,

I am a resident of XXX and I am writing to implore you to dismiss Lee Bee Wah as STTA President as she has demonstrated an utter lack of leadership, diplomacy and experience in the job.

As a Singaporean, I am most appalled, disgusted and disappointed by the behavior of STTA President Lee Bee Wah in her treatment of ex-coach Liu Guodong who won Singapore’s first Olympic medal in 48 years.

When asked by the media the reasons for not nominating Liu for the “Coach of the year” award, Lee was reported to have cast aspersions on Liu’s character with her statement that “results are not everything and that professionalism and integrity are important attributes of a good coach too.”

Being a public figure in a leadership position, her words carry heavy weight and may be enough to destroy the entire career and future of coach Liu.

If Liu was deemed unfit to be the national coach, why did she offer to renew his contract last year?

Her insensitive, callous and uncalled for remarks had triggered widespread public outrage with many Singaporeans calling for her resignation.

Please take a look at the petition below to judge the prevailing public sentiment for yourself:

http://www.petitiononline.com/lbh/petition.html

Since her latest faux paus, she had declined to comment further on the matter. If what she said about Liu is correct, why can’t she step forward and show the public the proof?

Does being a PAP MP give her special rights to character assassinate anybody she does not like or agree with?

What message are we sending to the sports fraternity? Will foreign coaches and players dare to come to Singapore knowing that their training and work will be subjected to frequent interference by political figures and administrators with no knowledge in the sports?

Is this the kind of “first division” MP that the PAP has in its team? Is Singapore really so short of talent to lead STTA?

I strongly protest against the continued stewardship of STTA under Lee Bee Wah.

Every time now I watch our national team played, bad memories of her 2 unwarranted outbursts will appear in my mind.

I will boycott the Singapore table-tennis team as long Lee Bee Wah remains in charge of the organization.

STTA is owned by the people of Singapore since it receives public monies for its training programmes and operations. Therefore it should be held accountable to the public.

Lee Bee Wah’s dismal performance so far has scandalized the entire nation and make us a laughing stock in the world.

She has lost all moral authority, credibility and respect to be a representative of the people.

Please do the right thing and remove her immediately as STTA President before more damage is done to the sports.

Yours sincerely,

XXX

Table tennis saga continues with coach Liu getting more support

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Chef-de-Mission for the 2008 Olympic is the latest to join the table tennis coach saga.

Dr Tan Eng Liang supports coach Liu Guodong in asking for an explanation from the Singapore Table Tennis Association on remarks made about his professionalism.

Liu Guodong landed at Changi airport early Thursday morning and the media was there waiting for him.

Mr Liu said: "She just needs to apologise. I will not ask for trouble. She just needs to clarify her remarks. I have feelings for Singapore."

The apology Liu is looking for is from Madam Lee Bee Wah, president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association. The association had questioned his professionalism and integrity in not nominating him for the Coach of the Year Award.

Now the coach has the support of Dr Tan Eng Liang, who had worked closely with him prior to the Beijing Games. Dr Tan does not doubt Liu's professionalism as he had delivered the silver medal for Singapore.

He gave an example that if performance takes up 80 per cent, that alone should qualify Liu for the award. He added that the association should withdraw the statement if they are unable to substantiate it.

The STTA could not be reached for comment, but Liu told the media he plans to meet the association's president over the next few days. And if he does not get a clarification, he would consider taking legal action.

A less confrontational approach is something that some are hoping for.

Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Community Development, Youth & Sports Ministry, said: "If possible, they could settle amicably and in time to come, move on for the sake of sports and the sake of table tennis too."

Liu is also in Singapore to meet up with his current employers, the Indonesian Table Tennis Association. - CNA/vm

NHG's Employee: Public pressure mount on Lee Bee Wah with Dr Tan Eng Liang joining in the fray

Public pressure mount on Lee Bee Wah with Dr Tan Eng Liang joining in the fray

Public pressure continues to mount on Lee Bee Wah to substantiate her allegations of ex-coach Liu Guodoing lacking professionalism and integrity. with Singapore’s Chef-de-Mission for the 2008 Olympic being the latest to join the table tennis coach saga.

Dr Tan Eng Liang, who worked closely with coach Liu Guodong prior to the Beijing Games supports him in asking for an explanation from the Singapore Table Tennis Association on remarks made about his professionalism. (read article here)

Dr Tan does not doubt Liu’s professionalism as he had delivered the silver medal for Singapore. He gave an example that if performance takes up 80 per cent, that alone should qualify Liu for the award. He added the association should withdraw the statement if they are unable to substantiate it.

In an earlier statement released to the press, STTA President Lee Bee Wah claimed that Liu does not deserve the award as he lacked “professionalism and integrity”.

Her unmitigated outburst against the highly regarded coach who won Singapore’s first Olympic medal in 48 years, sparked a massive public furore with many Singaporeans calling her to resign to take responsibility for the shameful fiasco.

Liu Guodong, who is currently coaching the Indonesian Table Tennis team was infuriated by Lee’s remarks in the media. He has since arrived in Singapore asking for clarifications from Lee without which he may consider taking legal action against her.

Lee Bee Wah has remained uncontactable so far. She had also declined to speak more on the matter. As a public figure in a leadership position, her words carry weight and will have a detrimental impact on Liu’s future as a coach.

While STTA has largely stood by Lee Bee Wah, the general public remained skeptical of her allegations because she had offered a contract to Liu to stay on as coach.

If Liu really lacks “professionalism and integrity”, why did she even bother to renew his contract upon its expiry and why wasn’t the problem detected earlier?

Liu Guodong had been with STTA for 4 years before Lee Bee Wah took over the organization. There were no complaints from STTA about his work which surfaced only after the Beijing Games.

Both Lee Bee Wah and STTA are really stuck in a quandrary now. It will be difficult for them to substantiate their claims against Liu given his performance and track record. Is it possible for an “unprofessional” coach to win an Olympic silver medal?

It will be a terrible loss of face for Lee and her credibility will be shredded into pieces if she backed out on her words now and apologize to Liu. On the other hand, she will risk dragging STTA into more controversy if the matter is allowed to escalate up to the courts.

Lee Bee Wah’s position is untenable. She should do the right thing now and resign from STTA to spare herself further humiliation.

Please sign the online petition to remove Lee as STTA President if you haven’t done so:

Liu Guodong wants STTA to clarify allegations in the press while Lee Bee Wah refuse to comment on the matter

BREAKING: Liu Guodong wants STTA to clarify allegations in the press while Lee Bee Wah refuse to comment on the matter

Liu Guodong claimed STTA has arranged to meet him this afternoon. STTA Honorary Secretary Soon Min Sin confirmed that he will be meeting Liu over a cup of coffee to clear up the misunderstanding.

Liu retorted that it is impossible to expect the matter to be resolved behind closed doors over a chit chat session. He demanded that STTA published a clarification in the papers stating that “Liu Guodong does not have any problems with his professionalism and integrity”.

“Lee Bee Wah is defaming me if she is unable to produce any evidence! I wish she will substantiate her allegations as soon as possible. I have not let Singapore down in anyway during my stint here”, said Liu angrily.

He quoted an example: “I was with the female coach Zhang Yong everyday and attended every single meeting with STTA. How could I possibly do something against the interest of Singapore?”

Lee Bee Wah still refused to answer questions from journalists during her Meet-the-People session last night.

Her revelation to the press that Liu had problems in his “professionalism and integrity” had sparked a public furore with many netizens petitioning her to resign as STTA President.

However, Lee had declined to comment further on the matter. When she saw the journalists last night, she waved them off with her hands to express her unwillingness to be interviewed.

EDITORS’ NOTE:

What kind of leader is this? She has the gall to smear the reputation of somebody in PUBLIC, but now refused to clarify her statements? Ms Lee Bee Wah, why are you keeping QUIET??? Are you LYING? Please show us proof that Liu Guodong has a character problem! Since you have already said so in the media, you must be able to substantiate your allegations. Do you know you can destroy the career of somebody with those words of yours? Lee Bee Wah must be taught a lesson. She has shown that she is MORALLY UNFIT to be a MP.

NHG's employee Recalling the HYPOCRISY of Lee Bee Wah

Recalling the HYPOCRISY of Lee Bee Wah: She described Liu Guodong as a “friend” before he left

No wonder Lee Bee Wah had stopped talking to the media. Not only she is capable of the most unimaginable faux pauses, she is also good at filp-flopping.

Let us recall what she said about Liu Guodong last year before he left STTA:

“I’ve considered that Liu Guodong has done a great job with the girls and met the target of a medal at the Olympics.” (Straits Times 28 August 2008)

[Lee was forced to say eat the humble pie in the aftermath of her humiliating public apology for spoiling Singapore celebratory mood after winning an Olympic silver medal]

“I tried to persuade him to stay, but I have to respect his wishes. I thank him for his great work in Beijing 2008 and wish him well in his future endeavours. The STTA will keep in touch with him as a friend of Singapore.” (The New Paper 16 October 2008)

[Liu denied that Lee had tried to persuade him to stay on. He was given a contract and was told to 'take it or leave it']

Obviously, Lee Bee Wah did not mean a single word she said then. Her real thoughts on Liu were betrayed in her latest (and hopefully last) interview with the media:

‘A Coach of the Year has to be professional, have integrity, be able to gel the team and is well-respected by all his players. If you ask the six players (who competed at the Beijing Games) if he is deserving of the Coach of the Year, less than half will agree.’ (Straits Times 7 May 2009)

[Lee Bee Wah minced no words in her explanation on why Liu was not nominated for the 'Coach of the year' award. This is how she is keeping touch with him as a "friend" of Singapore. Sorry Ms Lee, you do not represent Singapore. You are not even born here in the first place.]

Now, if coach Liu does not have professionalism or integrity, why did Lee Bee Wah praise him for his “great job” and even tried to “persuade him to stay”?

The two statements are incongruent with each other. Either Lee is lying through her teeth when she praised Liu earlier or she has a change of heart towards him after his departure.

Lee Bee Wah needs to come out to substantiate her allegations about Liu and at the same time clarified her earlier statements about him. Which version is the truth?

As a public figure and representative of the people in Parliament, she should not need to be taught on how to handle the media. Is she misquoted this time again?

Is Lee keeping quiet to wait for the storm to blow over with the hope that Singaporeans may forget the matter soon and forgive her?

This is the second time that Singaporeans have been made a fool by her. Should we give her a third chance?

If you feel it is time for her to step down as STTA President, please sign the petition below and forward it to everybody you know:

Liu Guo Dong: “Let the law resolve the issue if talks fail”

Liu Guo Dong: “Let the law resolve the issue if talks fail”

Liu Guodong told reporters at his hotel this morning that he is still waiting for STTA to contact him and he does not want to talk much now.

He said the purpose of his trip was to obtain a clarification from Lee Bee Wah and he wants to meet her and nobody else. He will consider taking legal action against her if talks fail.

Liu claimed that he had no intention to create trouble for STTA as he has his own matters to attend to such as meeting the President of the Indonesia Table-Tennis association.

He demands STTA to clarify its statements about him in the press and is now waiting for them to give him a call. “They should take the initiative to contact me,” he said.

Liu Guodong said: “I was a staff of STTA in the past, but not now. I will not go and stand outside the association like a fool.”

STTA has expressed willingness to meet up with Liu if he is free tonight.

A STTA spokesperson told the media that they did not manage to contact Liu yet and they will meet him tomorrow if he is not available tonight. Lee Bee Wah will probably be present during the meeting.

Liu Guodong is confident that 80% of public opinion is on his side. He was elated reading about the level of support he had received from the public in the papers.

He revealed that he still harbored sentiments for Singapore: “The last 4 years in Singapore were my most successful 4 years. I do not clamor for fame. The previous STTA President asked me to train the women team which I readily accepted. I am still willing to return to the team in the future even if I am not paid a single cent.”

Lee Bee Wah remained uncontactable for the entire day. Both the journalists and Liu had tried calling her to no avail.

NHG's employee thinks that STTA Hon Sec should be removed as well for his lame defence of Lee Bee Wah

STTA Hon Sec should be removed as well for his lame defence of Lee Bee Wah

Our online petition calling for removal of Lee Bee Wah as STTA president which was published by Channel News Asia has put renewed pressure on the beleaguered PAP MP for her latest faux paus plunging her association into another controversy yet again.

In spite of widespread public disaffection and fury over her shabby treatment of ex-coach Liu Guodong, who won Singapore’s first Olympic medal in 48 years, STTA is adamant that her decision was correct.

STTA Honorary Secretary Soon Min Sin said it is standing firm, both in its decision not to nominate Liu for the award as well as support of Ms Lee as president.

One key factor, though not the only one, that led to Ms Lee being elected as president last July was her passion for the sport, said Mr Soon.

She showed that she cared, and had some understanding of the sport as an ex-captain of the Nanyang Technological University team - that was what won over the majority of the “30 to 40″ representatives at the Annual General Meeting that day, according to Mr Soon.

And nine months later, she has the results to show for it.

“I think she has gelled the national team together. The players, the coaches are now a lot more cohesive than before. Even when players fall sick, she goes to the hospital to visit them. These are all behind the scenes.”

For his INCOHERENT, IRRATIONAL and NAIVE comments, Soon Min Sin must be removed together with Lee Bee Wah from STTA before more damage is done to the sports.

Soon Min Sin has more than adequately demonstrated his gross ignorance of competitive sports - that coaches and the other axillary staff are responsible for delivering results and nothing else.

Liu Guodong won a Olympic silver medal for Singapore. How many Singapore coaches, including the last winner of the Coach of the year had achieved his feat? For that alone, he deserved the award never mind his other alleged short-comings such as neglecting the male team.

Had Liu spent more time on the male team and end up winning nothing, will he be given the award based on him spending equitable amount of time and resources to develop both team?

What “results” had Lee Bee Wah got to show since she “gelled” the national team together as according to Soon? Did the table-tennis team win any medal in major tournaments during this period of time? The answer is NO!

To put it bluntly, any Tom, Dick or Harry can put up a good “wayang” to show his/her “understanding” and “passion” for table tennis and to show tender loving care to the players, but very few are able train a team to win a medal in an international tournament.

If Soon Min Sin was an ardent fan of the English Premier League, he would have known that coaches (managers) are judged solely by their results and not by the “compassion” they shown to the players.

Alex Ferguson of Manchester United is undoubtably the best manager who has graced the English Premier League. By Soon’s “standards”, he would not qualified to win even the “manager of the month” award because he once kicked a boot right into the face of David Beckham.

Soon Min Sin still has the cheek to say:

“If the public wants to start a petition, they’ve every right to do so. But what’s important is to ask ourselves ‘what is the role of STTA and are we doing our job?’

Not only do we have the right to start a petition to remove you and your President, we have every right to question the wisdom of STTA in allowing Lee Bee Wah who has created so much trouble in her short stint to remain as President of the association.

Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) is a National Sports Association affiliated to the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and Singapore Sports Council (SSC).

Who pays for the operating expenses of STTA? And who pays for the salaries of its administrative and playing staff? Every single cent comes from the public! Why should we leave the running of STTA entirely to Soon Min Sin and his gang?

Lee Bee Wah, Soon Min Sin and the entire committee can be replaced with a new team and STTA will still not collapse. They are easily replaceable. However, a world-class coach with a proven track record is definitely not easily replaceable.

Let’s see if the table-tennis team will be able to repeat their achievements in the next Olympic game. We will expect them to win a gold medal this time.

Will Lee Bee Wah, for all her efforts to “gel” the team together help it win a medal again? Or will she castigate the coach in public for not following her orders?

The truth is: Liu Guodong stepped on her toes by refusing to obey her wishes to show her any “face”. After all, she is a PAP MP who nobody dares to offend. Now Liu is gone, no honor shall be given to him to leave him a legacy.

While Liu has his character smeared in public in spite of winning a medal, somebody who lost billions of dollars of taxpayers’ monies was given a May Day award.

That’s how meritocracy worked in Singapore. No matter how good you are, you still need to have connections with the elite to leave your mark behind.

Online petition started by NHG's employee to remove Lee Bee Wah garners more than 1,000 signatories and still counting

Online petition to remove Lee Bee Wah garners more than 1,000 signatories and still counting

After the extensive publicity given to our online petition by both the English and Chinese dailies, the number of Singaporeans penning their names down on the petition to remove Lee Bee Wah as STTA President has now exceeded a thousand.

Many Singaporeans are simply outraged at her gross callousness in casting aspersions on the integrity and professionalism of one of Singapore’s most successful coach in recent times, having won a coveted Olympic medal for Singapore after 48 years of barren spell.

Lee Bee Wah still remained uncontactable since the furore erupted. Is this another misquote by the journalists? Her continued silence on the fracas is an admission of guilt on her part in slandaring coach Liu and bringing the entire STTA into disrepute.

If coach Liu indeed has some “problems” in his character, then Lee Bee Wah should substantiate her allegations in public now that her initial statements were widely reported by the press.

Why did STTA offer Liu a new, improved contract then if they found him to be undeserving in the first place?

Coach Liu had been with STTA for 4 years and he never experienced any problems with the previous President. Neither were there negative reports about him in the media. Why did he suddenly become “problematic” with the arrival of Lee Bee Wah? Does the real problem lies with Liu or Lee?

Though Liu Guodong has left Singapore for more than half a year, many Singaporeans still appreciate his contributions to the nation.

Wrote Low Kok Kiong:
Low Kok Kiong It is a wrong move and you have put Singapore in a bad light internatioanally. You were given this opportunity to close the whole chapter regarding LGD yet you did not make use of this golden opportunity. I am disappointed with your decisions not to nominate LGD and to say things about professionalism and conduct is really uncalled for. It just shows how petty the STTA or Singapore is and I wonder how it can attract more foreign talent coaches in Singapore again.

Another netizen was disgusted with her actions:
raj I’m disgusted with STTA president Ms Lee Bee Wah for her actions against the coach. I feel he deserves more than just a medal or the title ‘coach of the year’ ….his name should go into the books of Singapore records for working with the team to achieve a Silver medal for Singapore….Comon’ we’re talking Olympics here and not some RC game. Ms Lee should STEP DOWN and apologise for her mistakes and remarks. Singapore…lets be gracious & reward the coach.

Doris was concerned if Singapore is still able to attract top foreign talents in the future with this kind of “culture” Lee Bee Wah brought into STTA:
Doris Just like in a company, if one made a mistake and will be “mark” and ask to leave, who will dare to work hard for this company? Who on earth will not make mistake? Moreover Coach Liu had made up any mistakes(if he really had mistakes) by winning the sliver olympic medal. Why so narrow minded? How can Singapore attract good players or coach to join Singapore team if this kind of culture still stay in STTA? So I am not surprise we won’t score any olympid medal again if STTA lead by Miss LBW

The degree of anger and indignation felt by Singaporeans is a testimony of Lee Bee Wah’s unpopularity:
Wu MengJun Liu brought glory to the nation and right after that you had to sack him because of some personal issues. Singaporeans don’t want him sacked. the players dont want him sacked. JUST BECAUSE OF YOU LEE BEE WAH U BROUGHT SHAME AND ANGER RIPING THROUGH THE NATION. SHAME ON YOU! save yourself some face and step down on your own because you don’t deserve to be a STTA President. You don’t have the integrity nor the chacracter for it. You don’t qualify for it at all.

We will send an ultimatum to Lee Bee Wah together with the petition to implore her to step down as STTA President for the sake of the association, sports and nation.

If she still wilfully refuse to do so, we will escalate the matter up to the higher authorities.

For those of you who still have not signed the petition, please do so here:

Please forward it to everybody you know and let’s aim to hit 5,000 by the end of the week.

New Petition to Remove Lee Bee Wah as President of STTA started by National Healthcare Group’s Employee

Remove Lee Bee Wah as STTA President

View Current Signatures - Sign the Petition

To: Singaporeans

Background:

Ever since Lee Bee Wah took over as president of STTA, the organization has been mired in controversy and disrepute.

A few weeks into her stint, she caused a stir in Beijing with her outburst against coach Liu Guodong which spoilt the nation’s celebratory mood at winning Singapore’s first Olympic silver medal in 48 years.

Now after Liu has left the team, she is vindictive enough to settle personal scores with him by casting aspersions on his integrity in public and refusing to nominate him as a candidate for the Coach of the Year Award.

Lee Bee Wah has no knowledge and experience in sports administration. She has demonstrated by her actions so far that she is unfit to lead a national sports organization like STTA.

Petition:

We, the undersigned call on Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community, Youth and Sports to remove Lee Bee Wah as President of STTA immediately to placate widespread fury over her mismanagement and for the sake of table tennis’ future in Singapore. we are concerned that under her leadership, we will never be able to win another medal again.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

The petition: AWARE's comprehensive sexuality education

The petition

Dear parents,

We need your help – and your signatures!

Many of us are concerned about recent press reports about ‘comprehensive sexuality education’ (CSE) programmes conducted in schools by AWARE that endorse homosexuality and anal sex as ‘normal’ or ‘neutral’.

For example some statements from the current CSE programme (as reported in "Nothing 'sneaky' about elections", Sunday Times, 26 April 2009, Prime page 6) include:
• Anal sex 'can be healthy or neutral if practised with consent and with a condom'.
• 'Avoid using the term 'husband' and use 'partner' instead, so it is more inclusive. For example, 'homosexuals have partners, not husbands'.'

If you are concerned that such programmes have been brought into our schools, and taught to our children, we would like to invite you to join us in signing the letter (you will find it below).

We hope to send this letter, with all your signatures, to the good Minister for Education to express our concern about such programmes being actually conducted in our schools.
We are confident he will give it due consideration.

With your help, we hope that our children will get the best value-added education in our home we call Singapore. We also hope that we will all be able to work with our schools in the wholesome education of our children, not least of all in the area of sexuality education.

Thank you for your support!

K F Khoo (Mdm)

-------------------------------------------------

To: The Minister for Education

Dear Sir,
We write to you as concerned parents.

We refer to recent reports in the press about AWARE’s ‘comprehensive sexuality education’ that has been conducted in no fewer than 12 secondary schools.

We do not wish to comment on the ongoing events in AWARE which we consider to be its internal matter. However we do wish to express our concern that its programme, which endorses homosexuality and has been reported to describe anal sex as ‘healthy’ or ‘neutral’, has actually been conducted in our schools. It is worrying to us as our children at that age are impressionable.

We are aware of the risks associated with homosexual practices, such as higher rates of sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS among such groups, as seen in countries where homosexual practices are openly embraced. This is but one of the many concerns that we have about the endorsement of homosexuality in programmes that may be conducted in our schools.

We therefore humbly request that your ministry look into this matter and help address our parental concerns as follows:

• Can schools exercise greater care in bringing in sexuality programmes in future?

• Can schools inform us parents more accurately about the contents and values of such programmes that are conducted? To merely say that parents have been informed that a certain group is conducting a programme in the school is, in our opinion, inadequate. We shall be grateful if we could be informed about contents and thrust of such programmes first, in order that our consent given for our children to attend them is fully informed.

• Can schools develop programmes that engage us parents so that we can work together with them in the education of our children, especially so in areas such as sexuality education?

Thank you very much for your kind attention and consideration, and we look forward to working even more closely with your ministry in educating the future of our nation – our children.
